Did they have tubas in 64 AD? I'm too lazy to look it up. Either way it's an interesting thought.

drunkbh - No, they didn't have tubas back then - not in the form they exist now, anyway. Although, an early form of tuba was the Roman buccina; a spiraled infantry bugle. The tuba's current design didn't show up until the 1870's.
Coincidentally, I don't believe ukeleles were around in Nero's day, but a ukelele-playing Nero would have been funny too. It wouldn't have had the same meaning as Nero playing a tuba, but it also paints a funny picture.

rude - That makes a lot of sense. Then, as my brother noted, "he could have played with his meat-needle."
willow - Very interesting idea, that. Then the unborn ghost of Liberace could have played his ghost piano alongside Nero. That sounds like a Disney animated movie just waiting to happen.
badgerbob/willow - Others have suggested the two of you get married. I, on the other hand, would much rather see you two starring in your very own, prime-time, ABC sitcom with a gratuitous laughtrack and a bumbling, slightly neurotic, next-door neighbor.
hulabelly - I must give Nero some credit. Playing the fiddle - or violin in my case - can be quite difficult. Of course, the history books never said Nero played well.
